Composer Statement

Sally Hyun, D.M.A

As a composer, I believe that music is ultimately a record of reflections on human life. Perhaps for this reason, my music engages with human narratives and emotions, reconstructing soundscapes that emerge from the situations and experiences of human life.

I studied composition with Oscar Bettison at Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where I received both my Master’s and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees.

I am currently a U.S.-based composer and have collaborated with various ensembles, including the TIMF Ensemble and the Wet Ink Ensemble. I also actively engage in multidisciplinary collaborations.

In addition to my work as a composer, I am also a writer and educator.
